BATANG KALI: Sungai Buaya was witness to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's people-first, performance-now policy, on Friday.
Former Felda Sungai Buaya settlers were all smiles when the Barisan Nasional government fulfilled its promise to resolve land settlement woes even before polling day on Sunday.
The affected 363 households were given a total of RM18.15mil in advance payment Friday.
They had been waiting 15 years for a developer to pay them compensation, during which time, 276 of the 383 pioneers had passed away.
The surviving 87 pioneers received RM50,000 each from Idiqa Sdn Bhd chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who is also Umno supreme council member.
A lawyer has been engaged to distribute the advance money to next-of-kin of the settlers who have passed on.
Najib said the remaining amount would be paid to the settlers at RM160,000 per acre when the land was developed.
"The only condition is that Selangor is returned to Barisan to facilitate implementation of the development projects," he said.
