Kuala Lumpur (The Star/ANN) - A politician from Malaysia's ruling party fainted suddenly in a Sessions Court here on Monday when a court interpreter read to him his amended bribery charges, shocking everyone in the court.
Abd Ghani Ismail, 45, division chief of United Malays National Organisation (Umno) - Pandan branch, fell sideways with a loud bang. His wife, a relative, the intepreter and two lawyers rushed to the dock to help him sit up.
Sessions Court judge Rozilah Salleh immediately adjourned the court proceedings briefly.
His lead counsel M. Athimulan asked him to lean down. His wife wiped the sweat off his face and asked him to remove his coat.
A court policeman asked Abd Ghani if he was diabetic but he responded that he had fainted because "he had walked far".
